I often wonder how American sports culture has influenced our politics and religions. We don't do "ties" in any major sport that Americans watch in large numbers. We let our sports exhibit hyper capitalism and it goes all the way into our public school system. Blend that with consumerism and corporatism and we get what we have today. How this infected (or was parasitic onto) the American religious scene is another tragedy.

Solid thought for all to ponder: "Hating one’s enemies is never the same thing as loving one’s neighbors."

Thanks, Jim.

I like what I'm seeing in your writing and will continue to read and think about it. I will admit I generally avoid writers who claim Christianity because the religion has become so, well, strange, in this country. You seem to inhabit a broader space than I have found in others, and I appreciate the lack of rigidity in your writing. Thank you.

As Fulton Sheen once wrote, “A symbol is not a curtain on which the eye comes to rest; rather it is like a window, through which we see something else…It could be that our world is losing a belief in symbols. One wonders if there is not a parallel decline in our civilization between courtesy in human relations and decoration in architecture."

Just take a look around. Our environment says it all.

I continue to read your post and am marveled at how you are able to break things down and explain them in a meaningful and positive way. Thank you for helping us to find answers to questions so few are able to answer. You bring me hope when we continue to face some of the darkest days in America.
